Dansk 'Rare Woods' Ice Bucket by Jens Quistgaard

The "Rare Woods" pieces by Jens Quistgaard were produced by Dansk Designs for only three years in the early 1960s, and constituted a luxurious high-end line for the company. Handmade in Denmark from expensive tropical hardwoods such as Wenge, Brazil Rosewood, Muteneye, Coco Bolo, Palisander, and Pao Rosa, "Rare Woods" items are indeed very rare, and today much sought-after by collectors.

This ice bucket is made of solid African Wenge wood, with Quistgaard's patented "staved" construction (inspired by traditional ship and barrel construction). This piece has the self-confident form and fine craftsmanship that one associates with Quistgaard's best work.
