A Merton Gershun step end table for American of Martinsville's Accord line, finished in a light blonde tone with a durable Formica laminate top over tapered birch and maple legs and brass ball feet. Gershun designed more than a dozen furniture lines for the Martinsville, Virginia manufacturer — founded in 1906 — and Accord is counted among the postwar collections that helped move American furniture toward cleaner, more functional lines. Its stepped, two-tier profile was a hallmark of the era's side tables, built to sit beside a sofa or chair with room enough for a lamp on the raised tier — an authenticated vintage find with real presence for a mid-century-styled room.
